Notas:
Brachydontium contains 6-7 species, half associated with the montane tropics, the remaining species either associated with the southern or northern temperate regions. The genus is characterized by the small habit, leaves subulate from an ovate or oblong base, undifferentiated alar cells, cygneous, rarely flexuose-curved, setae, striate, rarely smooth capsules, large and conspicuous compound annulus and short, pale, papillose peristome teeth. Stone (1973) has provided a fine review of Brachydontium, including B. flexisetum.
