Barbellopsis contains two species distributed in Southeast Asia and tropical America; one species in the Neotropics. Distinguishing features of B. trichophora include the pendent habit, initially complanate leafy stems becoming radially fóliate with slender branches, leaves lanceolate-subulate, and laminal cells unipapillose.
Barbellopsis contiene dos especies distribuidas en el sureste de Asia y América tropical. En el Neotrópico sólo una especie del género se caracteriza por presentar hábito pendiente, tallos proximales reptantes y hojas grandes, tallos pendientes y ramas delgadas con hojas lanceolado-subuladas y papilas tenues.
