Scirpus confervoides Poiret in Lam., Encycl. 6: 755 (1805). Holotipo: Madagascar, Du Petit-Thouars s.n. (P).

Tallos 30-100 cm, suberectos; entrenudos primarios 5-10(-25) cm; vainas con puntas subuladas. Filocladios generalmente 5-8 cm, capilares, lisos, generalmente tempranamente decompuestos. Glumas opuestas, ligeramente separadas, linear-lanceoladas, la inferior c. 8 mm, 3-nervia, la superior 10-12 mm, atenuada, 1-nervia, ambas membranáceas, verdes, frecuentemente con tintes rojizo-púrpura. Anteras hasta 4 mm. Aquenios c. 2.5 x 2 mm, excluyendo al rostro terete más oscuro de 2 mm o más. En aguas dulces claras poco profundas estancadas o con corrientes lentas.
