Alternate name: Leguminosae. Includes Mimosaceae, Caesalpiniaceae & Papilionaceae.
This treatment draws largely on the excellent Monograph on Malagasy Legumes by Du Puy, D. J., et al. (2002), but provides additional distributional data, and includes subsequent taxonomic changes and additions in Caesalpinia, Dalbergia, Dupuya, Gigasiphon, Indigofera, Mimosa, & Stuhlmannia. Bobgunnia madagascariensis (Desv.) J.H. Kirkbr. & Wiersema (syn. Swartzia madagascariensis), which is a widespread African sp., was almost certainly recorded in error from Madagascar and is therefore excluded.
