Perennials with scaly rhizome. Leaves all alike, usually pinnate, segments mostly delicate, more or less cuneate or fan-shaped; veins simple or forked, free; petiole filiform, mostly glossy black. Sori at the ends of the veins, covered by the reflexed, scale-like and membranous margin of lobes (pseudo-indusium).
