Ecology: Wet lowlands forest; inundated sties on tree trunks and branches, decaying logs and rocks. Elevation: 100-625 m (Venezuela: 390-625 m, Colombia: 100-300 m, Peru: 100 m). Distribution: Amazonia (Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela) and the Guianas (French Guiana, Guyana, Surinam).
Ecología: Bosques húmedos de tierras bajas; en sitios inundados sobre troncos de árboles y ramas, leños en descomposición y rocas. Plants forming mats, irregularly pinnately branched; rhizoid numerous, clustered beneath stems. Leaves oval-ovate or semi-orbicular, to 1.4 mm long, to 0.8 mm wide, apex acute to broadly acuminate or obtuse-rounded; margins crenulate distally; costae short and double, indistinct or absent; laminal cells smooth, elongate-rhomboidal; cells of apices rhombic or oval; alar region differentiated, cells oblong to rectangular-rounded, inflated, supra-alar cells quadrate. Autoicous. Perichaetia lateral; leaves lanceolate, acute. Setae usually elongate, 2-9 mm long, smooth. Capsules erect, urn cylindrical, 0.9-1.1 mm long; exothecial cells rectangular, incrassate, not collenchymatous; opercula conic-rostrate; peristome double, exostome teeth 16, slender from a broad base, separated at base, smooth to papillose, ± abruptly narrowed papillose segment (often broken or appearing rudimentary); endostome basal membrane low or appearing absent, segments filiform or rudimentary, papillose. Calyptrae cucullate, smooth and naked. Spores spherical or nearly so, 16-20 µm in diameter, finely papillose.
Plantas formando tapices, Tallos pinnados irregularmente; rizoides numerosos, agrupados debajo de los tallos. Hojas oval-ovadas o semi-orbiculares, hasta 1.4 mm de largo, hasta 0.8 mm de ancho, ápice agudo a anchamente acuminado u obtuso-redondeado; márgenes crenulados; costa corta y doble, indistinta o ausente; células de la lámina lisas, alargado-romboidales; células de los ápices rómbicas u ovales; región alar diferenciada, células oblongas a rectangular-redondeadas, infladas, células supra-alares cuadradas. Autoicas. Periquecios laterales; hojas lanceoladas, agudas. Setas usualmente alargadas, 2-9 mm de largo, lisas. Cápsulas erectas, urna cilíndrica, 0.9-1.1 mm de largo; células exoteciales rectangular, engrosadas, no colenquimatosas; opérculo cónico-rostrado; peristoma doble, dientes del exostoma 16, delgados, desde una base ancha, separados en la base, lisos a papilosos, segmentos papilosos angostados ± abruptamente (generalmente quebrados o aparentemente rudimentarios); membrana basal del endostoma baja o aparentemente ausente, segmentos filiformes o rudimentarios, papilosos. Caliptra cuculada, lisa y desnuda. Esporas esféricas o casi así, 16-20 µm de diámetro, finamente papilosas.
