Ecology: Upper montane to páramo; on soil, rocks, base of trees. Elevation: 2900-3620 m (Venezuela: 2900 m, Colombia: 3100-3620 m). Distribution: Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia and Venezuela.

Brachythecium cirriphylloides is characterized by the orbicular pseudoparaphyllia, weakly plicate, concave, mostly broadly ovate and abruptly filiform apices to ca. 2.5 mm, weak or short leaf decurrencies, entire (not spurred) costa to ca. midleaf dioicous sexual condition, and papillose seta. McFarland (1988) assigned this species to section Reflexa (Limpr.) Broth. The majority of Colombian collections were originally determined as B. flexiventrosum.
