Notes:

Ecology: Open montane to subpáramo; exposed sites, commonly found on soil banks, frequent along trail and road banks. Elevation: 1300-3450 m (Colombia: 1300-3000 m, Ecuador: 2150-3450 m, Peru: 2750 m). Distribution: Mexico, Central America, West Indies, tropical Andes (south to at least Peru), eastern and southern Africa, Madagascar and Reunion.
 
Ecología: Montano abierto a subpáramo; en sitios expuestos, encontrada comúnmente sobre montículos de suelo, frecuente a lo largo de caminos y borde de carreteras. Ocasional, en elevaciones. Elevación: 1300-3450 m (Colombia: 1300-3000 m, Ecuador: 2150-3450 m, Perú: 2750 m). Distribución: México, Centroamérica, Indias Occidentales, Andes Tropicales (Sur, al menos hasta Perú), este y sudeste de Africa, Madagascar y Reunión.
 
Aongstroemia filiformis is distinguished by the entire leaf margins, leaf costa subpercurrent, perichaetial leaf costa leaf long excurrent, and relative short seta, 2x urn length. Aongstroemia jamaicensis Müll. Hal. is a synonym.
