Ecology: Open or forested montane to páramo and puna; on soil, humus, and decaying wood. Elevation: 2600-4400 m (Venezuela: 2600-2650 m, Colombia: 3080-4150 m, Ecuador: 2600-3900 m, Peru: 4200-4400 m, Bolivia: 2600-3800 m). Distribution: Mexico, Costa Rica, tropical Andes, and southeast Brazil.
Campylopus reflexisetus is a large species with equally foliate stems to 5 cm, leaves to 8 mm or more long ending in a long subula twice the lamina length, costa ca. 1/2 the width of leaf base, ventral hyalocysts twice as high as wide, alar cells distinct, hyaline or red, basal cells rectangular, at the margin narrow and elongate, forming a border of 10-15 rows, upper cells elongate oval or oblong. Frahm (1991) noted that the seta is long, 15(25) mm. Campylopus benedictii Herzog and C. ptychotheca Herzog are synonyms.
