Ecology: Páramo and puna, possibly in open high montane; on rocks. Elevation: 3100-4300 m (Colombia: 3100-4235 m, Peru: 4420 m, Bolivia: 3900-4300 m). Distribution: Endemic to the tropical Andes.

This species often forms dense cushions or tufts, leaf apex concolorous, the costa is broad, to 3/4 the width of the leaf base, alar cells absent or weakly differentiated, basal cells thin-walled, rectangular, upper cells elongate, thick-walled. The type was collected by Herzog from San Benito at 3900 m (Bolivia).
Esta especie a menudo forma cojines o manojos densos, hojas con ápices concoloros, la costa es ancho, ocupa hasta 3/4 del ancho de la base de la hoja, sin células alares o débilmente diferenciadas, células basalescon paredes delgadas, células superiores alargadas, rectangular, con paredes gruesas. El tipo fue colectado por Herzog en San Benito a 3900 m  (Bolivia).
