Features of this species include the costa with ventral and dorsal stereid band, upper cells quadrate to subquadrate or short rhomboidal in distinct rows, basal cells pitted, alar cells inflated and reddish brown, and microphyllous branches in the axil of comal leaves. Subspecific subspecies and variety rank has been recognized by Frahm; in this treatment the varietial rank is recognized. Note: All records listed and map displayed in Tropicos represent Campylopus arctocarpus var. arctocarpus.

Las características de esta especie incluyenla costa con franjas de estereídas ventrales y dorsales, células superiorescuadradas a subcuadradas o corto rómbicas en filasconspicuas, células basales foveoladas, células alaresinfladas y pardorojizas, y ramas microfilas en las axilas de lashojas comosas. Las subespecies y variedades han sido reconocidas por Frahm; en este tratamiento las variedades son reconocidas.
