Bryum pallens is characterized by the oblong-lanceolate leaves (ca. 2-2.5 mm long), acuminate apex, distinctly decurrent leaf base, entire and recurved margins, distinct border, percurrent to short excurrent costa, laminal cells thin-walled, lax upper cells, long rectangular basal cells, dioicous sexual condition, pyriforme capsules with a distinct elongate neck. The collection (Rose 19529, NY) from Peru, Arequipa, was originally named B. concavum.
