Ecology: Semi-dry to humid puna, on soil. Elevation: ca. 3000 to 4800 m (Argentina ca. 3000 m, Bolivia: 4400-4800 m). Distribution: At high latitudes of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, in South America from Bolivia and Uruguay to Chile and Argentina.
Bryum imbricatum is similar to B. algovicum, differing mainly in sporophytic features according to Ochi (1980), including a synoicous sexual state, hemispheric and apiculate operculum, exostome free from the endostome, cross walls absent on inner surface of the exostome, and the narrowly perforate endstomal segments. This species was treated by Ochi (1980: 144) as Bryum amblyodon Müll. Hal.;
