Ecology: Montane forest; on soil and bark of trees. Elevation: 600-3700 m. Distribution: Peru and Chile; also Australia and New Zealand.
The identity of this species is not well characterized in South America. The leaves are oblong to oblong- obovate, costa long excurrent, border of 2-3 rows of narrow thick-walled cells, finely serrate or serrulate above. This may be a small version of Bryum andicola.
