Bryoerythrophyllum recurvirostrum var. aeneum is distinguished by the narrowly oblong-lanceolate to lanceolate leaves to 2.5(3) mm, broadly acute, often toothed apex, recurved margins (to apex or above midleaf), often decurrent leaf base, subpercurrent to percurrent costa with 2 stereid bands, dioicous or polygamous sexual condition, setae to 20 mm, cylindrical capsules to 2 mm, and spiculose peristome teeth.
 
Bryoerythrophyllum recurvirostrum var. aeneum se distingue por las hojas angostamente oblongo-lanceoladas a lanceoladas hasta 2.5(3) mm, ápice anchamente agudos, a menudo dentados, márgenes recurvados (hasta el ápice o en la mitad superior), base de la hoja a menudo decurrente, costa subpercurrente a percurrente con 2 franjas de estereidas, condición sexual dioica o polígama, seta hasta 20 mm, cápsulas cilíndricas hasta 2 mm, y dientes del peristoma espiculados.
