Notes:

Ecology: Montane to páramo and humid puna; on soil and rocks. Elevation: 2800-3400 m (Colombia: 3550 m, Ecuador: ?m, Peru: 3200-3400 m, Bolivia: 2800-3750 m). Distribution: Endemic to the tropical Andes (Colombia to Bolivia).
 
Ecología: Montano a páramo y posiblemente puna; sobre suelo y rocas. Elevación: 2800-3400 m (Colombia: 3550 m, Ecuador: ?m, Perú: 3200-3400 m, Bolivia: 2800-3750 m). Distribución: Endémica para Andes Tropicales (Colombia a Bolivia).
 
Brachythecium chocayae is characterized by the plicate, ovate-lanceolate leaves, slender and twisted apex, short decurrent base, entire below, serrulate distally, costa extending to midleaf, few and small alar cells, autoicous or synoicous sexual condition, and seta with low papillae thoughout. The original collections (syntypes) were all made in the Bolivian department of Cochabamba, from Chocayatal and Quebrada Pocona by Herzog.
