Notes:
Ecology: Open or disturbed montane sites; on moist or wet soil and soil covered rocks. Elevation: 1700-3385 m (Colombia: 2400-3385 m, Ecuador: 1700-2770 m, Bolivia: 2740-3000 m). Distribution: Widespread intemperate Northern and Southern hemispheres, uncommon in the tropics at high elevations.
 
Ecología: Sitios montanos abiertos o perturbados; sobre suelo húmedo o mojado y suelo cubriendo rocas. Elevación: 1700-3385 m (Colombia: 2400-3385 m, Ecuador: 1700-2770 m, Bolivia: 2740-3000 m). Distribución: Ampliamente distribuida en la región templada de los hemisferios Norte y Sur, poco común en los trópicos en altas elevaciones.

Plants small, forming loose, soft mats, yellowish-green to pale green. Stems creeping or spreading, radiculose below, central strand present , pseudoparaphyllia foliose. Leaves mostly erect-spreading, lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, 0.5-0.9 mm long, apex gradually long acuminate; margins plane, occasionally somewhat plicate at base, weakly serrulate; costae single, ca. 2/3 lamina length, ending well below acumen; median cells hexagonal or rhomboidal, ± thick-walled; alar region not well developed, cells subquadrate to oblong, 30-50 µm long, 10-12 µm wide. Autoicous. Perichaetia lateral. Setae elongate, slender, smooth. Capsules inclined, urn cylindrical, ± asymmetric, weakly to strongly curved; opercula conic-apiculate; peristome double, exostome teeth 16, cross-striate below, distally papillose, with a median zigzag line; endostome finely papillose, basal membrane high, segments 16, keeled, cilia 1-3, nodulose. Calyptrae cucullate, smooth and naked. Spores spherical, finely papillose.
 
Plantas pequeñas, formando tapices laxos, suaves, verde amarillentas a verde claras. Tallos reptantes o extendidos, radiculosos abajo, cordón central presente, pseudoparáfilos foliosos. Hojas mayormente erecto-extendidas, lanceoladas a ovado-lanceoladas, 0.5-0.9 mm de largo, ápice gradualmente largo acuminado; márgenes planos, ocasionalmente algo plegados en la base, suavemente serrulados, costa simple aprox. 2/3 la longitud de la lámina, terminando bien abajo del acumen; células mediales hexagonales o romboidales, paredes ± gruesas; región alar no bien desarrollada, células subcuadradas a oblongas, 30-50 µm de largo, 10-12 µm de ancho. Autoicas. Periquecios laterales. Setas alargadas, delgadas, lisas. Cápsulas inclinadas, urna cilíndrica, ± asimétrica, suave a fuertemente curvadas; opérculo cónico apiculado; peristoma doble, dientes del exostoma 16, estriados transversalmente abajo, papilosos distalmente, con una línea media en zig-zag; endostoma finamente papiloso, membrana basal alta, segmentos 16, plegados, cilios 1-3 nodulosos. Caliptra cuculada, lisa y desnuda. Esporas esféricas, finamente papilosas.
