Pseudotaxiphyllum contains about 15 species, rather widely distributed, particularly in Asia; previously members of this genus were placed in Isopterygium (Iwatsuki, 1987); a single species, given below, is present in the Neotropics. The genus is characterized by a stem cortex of 1-2 outer rows of small, thick-walled cells (viewed in cross-section), smooth rhizoids, pseudoparaphyllia absent, weakly to distinctly complanate, spreading to squarrose leaves, smooth laminal cells, similar apical and median cells, and inclined capsules.
 
Pseudotaxiphyllum contiene cerca de 15 especies, distribuidas más bien ampliamente, particularmente en Asia; miembros de este género fueron ubicados previamente en Isopterygium (Iwatsuki, 1987); una sola especie, dada abajo, está presente en el Neotrópico. El género se caracteriza por presentar la corteza del tallo con 1-2 hileras externas de células pequeñas con paredes gruesas (vistas en sección transversal), rizoides lisos, pseudoparáfilos ausentes, levemente a claramente complanados, hojas extendidas a escuarrosas, células de la lámina lisas, células apicales y mediales similares, y cápsulas inclinadas.
