Pilotrichidium is a neotropical genus of two species. The genus is only likely to be confused with Callicostella. Pilotrichidium exhibits an exceedingly strong, smooth projecting costa (beyond the leaf lamina) and pluripapillose laminal cells, whereas Callicostella has is some cases a weakly projecting often serrate costa, and unipapillose or smooth laminal cells. The genus has been thoroughly treated by Allen & Crosby (1986).
 
Este es un género neotropical de dos especies. Pilotrichidium probablemente sólo sea confundido con Callicostella pero se diferencia por los siguientes rasgos: costa excesivamente fuerte, lisa, proyectada y células pluripapilosas en el primero, y en el último por la costa débilmente proyectada generalmente aserrada y células unipapilosas o lisas.
