Notes:
Lorentziella, a monogeneric genus, is distinguished by the slender excurrent costa and wrinkled ellipsoid, cleistocarpic capsules. Given the present disjunct distribution at the extreme boundaries of the Neotropics, it is likely this species will ultimately be found in intervening areas where suitable habitats exist. The generic name honors Paul (Pablo) Güther Lorentz (1835-1881), plant collector (including southern Bolivia and northwest Argentina) and author.
