Leptotheca contains two species, distributed in the tropical American cordilleras and circum-Antarctica region. This epiphytic montane taxon is distinguished by the very tomentose lower stems, spirally arranged leaves, single toothed serration of the leaf margin, and most notably the bottle-brush appearance of clustered, papillose, cylindrical gemmae on distal portion of stems.
Leptotheca contiene dos especies, distribuidas en regiones tropicales y templadas de las cordilleras americanas y la región del círculo antártico. En el Neotrópico sólo una especie has sido registrada, Leptotheca boliviana Herzog. Esta especie epífita en el bosque montano se distingue por los tallos inferiores densamente tomentosos, hojas dispuestas en espiral, serración con dientes simples en el margen de las hojas y la característica más notoria son las yemas agregadas similares a cepillos para botellas, papilosas, cilíndricas ubicadas en la porción distal de los tallos.
