general taxon notes:

Distichum contains some 15 species associated with mostly cold temperate regions; only a single species recorded for Bolivia and the tropical Andes. The distinctly 2-ranked leaves with a stout, roughened, long excurrent costa are diagnostic features that do not occur in other high elevational puna genera.
