Dendrocryphaea contains four species, with the exception of the Colombian species, the remaining three are confined to temperate Argentine and Chile (Griffin et al., 1982). Distinguishing features of the genus include the blackish-green coloration of the gametophytes, broadly ovate to obovate leaves, and the subglobose capsules. The genus is the only aquatic member of the family.
Dendrocryphaea contiene cuatro especies, con la excepción de las especies Colombianas, los tres restantes están confinados a zonas templadas en Argentina y Chile (Griffin et al., 1982). Las características que distinguen al género incluyen la coloración verde-negruzca de los gametofitos, hojas anchamente ovadas a obovadas, y cápsulas subglobosas. El género es el único miembro acuático de la familia.
