Chrysoblastella is a monospecific genus (cf. Buck 1981). Chrysoblastella chilensis is readily recognized by the bistratose, strongly mammillose laminal cells (ca. 2 mammillae per cell). When sterile this species is likely to be confused with members of the Pottiaceae. In the tropical Andes this species is typically found well above 3000 m. The name Cheilothela Lindb. ex Broth. was applied previously to the tropical Andes.
