general taxon notes:
A genus of 18 species mostly associated with the north temperate regions; six species recorded for the Neotropics (Mexico, Central America, Bolivia, Brazil, and Greater Antilles). In Bolivia only a single species is recorded, Anomodon tristis (Ces.) Sull. & Lesq. Granzow-de la Cerda (1992, 1997) has demonstrated that Haplohymenium is derived within Anomodon, and treated it as a section within that genus.
