Anacolia contains about nine species; only the species given below is known in the Neotropics. Sporophytes are apparently very rare. A genus characterized by stems lacking a hyalodermis, narrowly lanceolate leaves with base little differentiated, median cells subquadrate with papillae weakly projecting at cell ends, and gymnostomous capsules rugose, not furrowed.


Anacolia contiene ca. nueve especies. En el Neotrópico sólo una especie es conocida, Anacolia laevisphaera (Taylor) Flowers. Los esporofitos son aparentemente muy raros. Este es un género caracterizado por la ausencia de hialodermis en los tallos, hojas angostamente lanceoladas con bases poco diferenciadas, células mediales subcuadradas con papilas proyectándose débilmente en los extremos de las células y cápsulas gimnostómicas rugosas, no acanaladas.
