Notes:
This monospecific genus is distinguished by the presence of lamellae in 8-11 rows on the upper distal surface of the leaf, a feature encountered elsewhere only in the Polytrichaceae and in a few genera in the Pottiaceae; a fine example of convergent evolution. Additional features characterizing the genus include the cucullate, obtuse-acute apex, cryptoicous sexual condition, short seta, slightly exserted capsules, irregularly divided 2-3 filiform segmented peristome, and lobed, plicate campanulate calyptra.
